Earth Hour

The Australian Embassy will participate in 'Earth Hour' on Saturday 27 March by joining people and businesses from across the globe in turning off their lights to raise awareness about climate change issues.

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet.

Austrade in Kuwait

The Australian Embassy is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mohammad Imran to the post of Business Development Manager based at the Embassy in Kuwait. Mr Imran comes to Austrade from Carrier where he managed their Kuwait business and brings to the role a strong commitment to customer and client management. Mr Imran was born in Kuwait and has worked here for all of his career.

Austrade in Kuwait focuses mainly on the infrastructure sector but works in the education, finance & investment, defence & health sectors. The new Austrade Business Development Manager's role will be to encourage Australian trade and two way investment with Kuwait, currently estimated at over $1 billion annually. 

New Information - Citizenship by Descent

From 15 August 2009, the Embassy will cease processing Citizenship by Descent applications.

Applicants for Citizenship by Descent must now apply to the Australian Consulate General in Dubai.

How do I lodge the application?
There are three ways to lodge a Citizenship by Descent application:

1.  In person, by appointment only, at the Australian Consulate-General in Dubai (call +971 4 355 1958 to make an appointment);or

2.  Through our service delivery partner at a number of locations around the Gulf (see www.vfs-au-gcc.com)  or

3.  By courier to:

Application Charge
The application charge must be paid by a demand bank draft drawn on a UAE bank and should be made out to:
“Australian Consulate-General Dubai Austrade official public account”

The current charge* is AED330.
